Mobile World Congress 2025: AI is Taking Over, and I’m Here for It

Hey, Chad here. let me tell you what I saw at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona. The organizers are saying that it brought together “tens of thousands” of leaders from the world of tech under one roof. I don’t know about that, but I do know AI was everywhere. I mean, EVERYWHERE. Here’s the lowdown on the new tech that caught my eye.
Deutsche Telekom’s AI Phone: Your New Virtual Butler?
First up, Deutsche Telekom is launching an AI phone powered by a Perplexity chatbot. Yeah, you heard that right. This thing is running “Magenta AI,” which is basically a suite of AI tools including Perplexity Assistant, Google Cloud AI, ElevenLabs, and Picsart.
They’re saying this phone can order taxis, make restaurant reservations, translate languages in real-time, and answer pretty much any question you throw at it. Sounds like a virtual butler to me. It can write emails, make calls, play music, summarize texts, and even add events to your calendar automatically. I’m not sure if I’m ready to hand over that much control to an AI, but hey, maybe I could finally get my life organized.
If you’re not ready to ditch your current phone, they’re also releasing some of these AI features in an app this summer. Baby steps, people.
Google’s Gemini Gets Even More Intrusive… I Mean, Helpful
Google was showing off some new AI features for Android, powered by Gemini Live. In one demo, a user asked Gemini to suggest a color for a vase based on the room’s decor. Okay, that’s kind of cool.
But then they showed someone sharing their screen with Gemini to get outfit suggestions based on a pair of jeans they wanted to buy. I don’t know, man. Is it just me, or is that a little too much? I guess if you’re fashion-challenged, it could be a lifesaver.
Gemini Advanced subscribers get first dibs on these features this month. So, if you’re already in deep with Google, you might as well go all the way, right?
Phones That Think They’re Professional Cameras
The Nubia Focus 2 Ultra from ZTE has what they’re calling an “AI Photography System” that lets you take high-quality photos anytime, anywhere. It’s got a rotating dial on the back to switch between different focal lengths for wide-angle shots, portraits, and long-focus stuff. Plus, it has AI features like an eraser for editing your pics. Not bad.
Xiaomi and Leica Camera also dropped the 15 Ultra model, another phone focused on photography. This thing offers “all focal lengths” with its Leica Summilux optical lens and shoots video in 4K. These phones are blurring the lines between smartphone and professional camera.
ZTE also had their Nubia Neo 3 series on display, which are phones built specifically for gamers. So, if you’re into mobile gaming, that might be worth checking out.
Lenovo’s Solar-Powered Laptop: Finally!
Lenovo unveiled the Yoga Solar PC, a concept laptop with a solar panel built into the cover. They’re saying 20 minutes in direct sunlight gives you up to an hour of video streaming. Now that’s what I’m talking about!
The laptop also tracks the panel’s current and voltage and adjusts settings to maximize energy savings, no matter the lighting. It’s just a concept for now, but if they can pull this off, it could be a game-changer for anyone who works on the go.
Final Thoughts
MWC 2025 was all about AI, from phones that act like personal assistants to laptops that can power themselves with sunlight. Some of it seems cool, some of it seems a little creepy, but overall, it looks like AI is here to stay. Whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing, I guess we’ll find out.
Finally, a solar-powered laptop! I’ve been waiting for this for years. Hopefully, Lenovo actually releases it and doesn’t just keep it as a concept.
